Cameron van de Burgh seizes Men’s 50m breaststroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa seized gold medal of Men’s 50m breaststroke on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Saturday, October 6.
Van der Burgh, who is the world record holder of the 100m breaststroke, continued his nerve-wrecking efforts in the 50m discipline and proved his eligibility for the title of the discipline.
With his invincible efforts in the single lap discipline, van der Burgh devastated hopes of his opponents and surfaced on the wall for gold medal by producing an effort of 25.95 seconds.
The gold medalist was followed by Roland Schoeman of South Africa, who stayed 0.40 seconds apart and tapped the wall for silver medal by clocking an effort of 26.38 seconds.
Schoeman was trailed by Glenn Snyders of New Zealand, who remained 0.30 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end for third position by clocking a time of 26.68 seconds.
Fourth spot of the event was obtained by Giulio Zorzi of South Africa, who stayed 0.18 seconds apart and settled on the wall by submitting an effort of 26.86 seconds.
Subsequently, Zorzi was trailed by Neil Versfeld of South Africa, who remained 0.24 seconds behind and proved his eligibility for fifth position of the event by reporting an effort of 27.10 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the race was obtained by Marco Koch of Germany, who stayed 0.06 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall by clocking an effort of 27.16 seconds.
Koch was chased by Sergei Geibel of Russia, who suffered a loss of 0.05 seconds behind and emerged on the wall as seventh fastest swimmer by hitting the wall with a timing of 27.21 seconds.
Geibel remained comfortably ahead of his following swimmer, Emil Tahirovic of Slovenia, who remained 0.75 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end as eighth best finisher by tapping the wall with an effort of 27.96 seconds.
In addition, van der burgh received a huge round of applause from the audience for his notable efforts in the shortest breaststroke event and collected accolade at the victory ceremony of the event.
