Cameron van der Burgh claims Men’s 100m breaststroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa claimed gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, October 3.
The world record holder of the event, van der Burgh continued his nerve-wrecking form and defended his title in a ruthless manner. He gained a marginal lead over his challengers in the start and spoiled the party of his competitors by claiming gold medal.
With his unstoppable efforts, he remained just a touch ahead of his strongest rival, Glenn Snyders of New Zealand, and paved his way to the finishing end for gold medal by clocking a time of 58.33 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Snyders, who stayed 0.09 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as second position holder by producing a nice time of 58.42 seconds.
Snyders was trailed by Marco Koch of Germany, who remained half body length slower from upsetting his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall for bronze medal with an effort of 58.90 seconds.
Koch was followed by Neil Versfeld of South Africa, who suffered a deficit of just 0.01 seconds from his former finisher and ended his race in fourth place by producing a time of 58.91 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Sergey Geybel of Russia, who stayed 0.19 seconds apart and ended his race in a time of 59.10 seconds.
The Russian swimmer was trailed by Sean Mahoney of USA, who stayed 0.21 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 59.31 seconds.
Mahoney was traced by Valerii Dymo of Ukraine, who stayed 0.09 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 59.40 seconds for seventh place.
Dymo was chased by Anton Lobanov of Russia, who remained only 0.03 seconds apart and ended his race in eighth place by clocking an effort of 59.43 seconds.
In addition, van der Burgh was delighted with his second win of the tournament and articulated that he is looking forward to continue the same at subsequent stages of World Cup Series.
