Cameron van der Burgh wins Men’s 100m breaststroke semi-final: Day one - South African LC Nationals
Cameron van der Burgh of NTS-NT dominated the semi-final of Men’s 100m breaststroke on opening day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Monday, April 16.
The 23-year-old VD Burgh continued his nerve-wrecking form in the semi-final and earned his way into the final round as strong contender for gold medal. With his irresistible efforts, he stayed in a comfortable lead over his following rival and cemented
his place on the victory stand for gold medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 00.36 seconds.
His gruelling form was trailed by Neil R Versfeld of KZNA-KZ, who seized second best qualification spot of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.79 seconds.
The third spot of the race was secured by his team-member, Rory L Buck, who remained nearly half a body length behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.36 seconds.
He was followed by VD Burgh’s teammate, Giulio A Zorzi, who settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.67 seconds.
The 23-year-old Zorzi was chased by Terence M Parkin, who ended his swim in fifth best place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 03.94 seconds.
The sixth best qualification spot was obtained by Dylan Bosch of CGA-CG, who remained -0.07 seconds slower from his former finisher and concluded his sprint in a time of 1 minute and 04.01 seconds.
The 18-year-old Bosch was chased by Kyle B Baxter, who stayed just one and a half stroke behind his former finisher and ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 04.18 seconds.
Subsequently, Baxter was followed by Jared C Pike, who stayed 0.12 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 04.30 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s category while these finalists will face each other in the final round of their 100m event to secure the podium for gold medal.
