Cameroon's Mens volleyball team defeats Algeria by 3-2 in final: 2011 All Africa Games
The Men’s Volleyball team of Cameroon was able to hand out a defeat to the Algerians in the final match of the 2011 All Africa Games on the September 7th. The final match took place in Maputo, Mozambique and was a tough battle between the two sides that
went on for more than two hours. The win that Cameroon was able to accomplish was achieved at the following final set scores: 23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 15-11.
The start of the first set of the game saw the Algerians take the lead as its attack worked actively to give their team leverage. However, the Cameroon team was not about to give up the chase and before the Algerians could get away with the advantage, Cameroon
tied the set at 8-8. Algeria was able to pull free from the tie position and gain control but they could not get dominance for long as Cameroon sped up to reach another tie at 16-16. To mend matters, the attackers from Algeria propelled the team forwards for
another lead. This time around, Cameroon fell to making errors in service as well as reception that cost them the opening set at 23-25.
Like in the first set of the game, the Algerians were able to move up ahead at the start of the second set too.  However, as the first technical time out was reached, Cameroon managed to close in the gap at 8-7. Cameroon kept trying hard to move ahead of
the Algerians but Algeria was still leading as the second technical time out came. Cameroon stayed within fighting distance of their opponents at 19-16 and before long, they were able to put up a spurt of speed and zoom to bag the set at 25-22.
Capitalising on the confidence generated by winning the second set, Cameroon was able to come out strong in the third one as well and improve their performance. The attack led by the Cameroon player, Jean Ndaki, kept the pressure on Algeria all through the
frame. Ndaki also contributed by pulling off some well timed service aces. Therefore, Cameroon was able to sail smoothly towards a win at 25-17.
The fourth set saw the Algerians taking the lead at 8-7 and they were able to extend the advantage until the second technical time out at 16-13. The Cameroon side could not pull itself together when it came back onto the courts and Algeria won the set at
25-21.
The spikes and services of Ndaki proved to play an indispensible role for Cameroon in the fifth set which ended in a win for them at 15-11.
The title match of the tournament received the honour of having the president of CAVB, Dr Amr Elwani, and other prominent officials present at the venue to watch the final.
