Cameroon Vs Georgia Match Preview Samuel Etoo Vs Kakha Kaladze showdown
Cameroon famously known as the “Indomitable Lions” earned their name in the international football scene in the nineties in the Italian world cup in 1990 and since then they have never slipped off their horses. They were the only African team to have gone that far in the world cup reaching the last eight. This standard was almost matched by the Senegalese, who expelled France out of the world cup later on in the competition.
The Cameroonian side is the yard stick the African teams use to measure their performance internationally and they are going to have all eyes set on them in the forthcoming South African world cup finals. Out of the six African teams, Cameroon is being regarded highly to win the silver ware with Nigerian flattering on their qualifying matches.
To this day Cameroons performance in Italy still causes ripples in whole continent. Cameroon are going to open their campaign in South Africa against Japan on June 14 ,before then they have to play European renown teams, the likes of Portugal Slovakia and Serbia. These are very tight fixtures but the one against Georgia is going to be a much easier tie. Cameroon performance was under par in the recent Africa Cup of nations but this clash against Georgia is not a huge challenge.
The match between Georgia and Cameroon is going to be a match of David and Goliath. Cameroon is ranked at a respected 19 and Georgia is ranked at 119 in the FIFA world football teams ranking. These teams are worlds apart, both playing a very different style of football.
Since Georgia broke off from the Soviet Union, they have not joined the world stage of football, and therefore they have not qualified for any major trophy tournament with their recent performances in the Euro 2008 and the qualifiers of 2010 world cup being very heart breaking. Georgia’s only star player is the AC Milan’s Kakha Kaladze., the player to watch out for in this clash.
Cameroon disappointed everyone alike, fans and critics when they missed the World Cup finals in Germany 2006 but are going to be out to make up for that loss by making their presence properly felt when they start off their group E campaign against the Dutch, Japan and Denmark.
Pre match Analysis
Georgia’s World Cup qualifier performance speaks for itself - they only picked up a single win in the whole campaign, finishing at the bottom of their group with only three points to show off their ten encounters in the qualifiers. This goes on to say that the African side is the clear favorite to win this encounter without much difficulty. The choice of an adversary by the Cameroonian coach is rather ironic, with Georgia being nowhere close to their standards, he wants his team to start with the right morale and a winning mindset.
