Camille Lacourt clinches Men’s 50m backstroke gold: Day two – 2012 Paris Open
Camille Lacourt of France clinched gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke on day two of the 2012 Paris Open Swimming Championships on Saturday, July 7.
Lacourt served notice of his talent in the single lap backstroke discipline as he went full rampant for gold medal of the event.
With his impeccable pace, he stayed full body length ahead of his challengers and sprinted his way towards the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 25.01 seconds.
The gold medallist remained 0.88 seconds faster from Dorian Gandin of France, who followed him on the medal rostrum for silver medal by reporting a time of 25.89 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Jonathan Massacand of Switzerland, who stayed half body length behind and finished his swim in a time of 26.45 seconds for bronze medal.
Similarly, the third position holder was chased by Mark Fischer of Germany, who stayed only 0.24 seconds slower from his former finisher and hit the finishing end with an effort of 26.69 seconds.
Fischer was chased by Marco Fanti Rovetta of Italy, who ended fifth in the event with the timing of 26.92 seconds.
Moments later, the audience witnessed mind-blowing efforts of Spanish swimmer, Judit Ignacio in the Women’s 200m butterfly. Ignacio won hearts of the aquatic crowd by posting a gold winning time of 2 minutes and 08.77 seconds.
The champion was followed by Lara Grangeon of France, who stayed almost four seconds slower from her and made her way to the finishing wall as second position holder with an effort of 2 minutes and 12.22 seconds.
The silver medallist was traced by Martina van Berkel of Switzerland, who stayed just 0.01 seconds apart and settled on the wall as bronze medallist with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.23 seconds.
Berkel was chased by Silvia Meschiari of Italy, who was 0.71 seconds away from the bronze medallist and reported a time of 2 minutes and 12.94 seconds for fourth position.
Lacourt was happy with his sprint and said that he would try to achieve the same at the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
