Camille Lacourt pockets Men’s 100m back-stroke gold: Day three – 2011 Dutch Open LC Championships
Camille Lacourt of Team Marseille 2012 stunned the arena by pocketing gold medal of the Men’s 100m back-stroke on concluding day of the 2011 Dutch Open Long Course Championships in Eindhoven on Sunday, December 4th.
Lacourt was the top contender for gold medal throughout the double lap back-stroke event. He had a considerably faster start that played a vital role in his victory.
With his commendable start and powerful dolphin kicks, Lacourt managed to gain slight lead over his opponents in the start of the race. He cruised his way towards the other end of the wall and ended his first lap in a time of 26.42 seconds.
He was chased by Bastiaan Lijesen of EIFFELswimmersPSV, who followed his lead in the initial lap and remained just 0.14 seconds slower than him, completing his lap in a time of 26.56 seconds.
The battle continued in the next lap, where Lacourt continued to serve notice of his talent and strengthened his place for gold medal. he rushed his way towards the finishing end with a top ranked time of 53.71 seconds for gold medal.
With his wonderful effort, he remained 0.07 seconds under the national senior mark of 53.78 seconds, made by Nick Driebergen in 2009. He also remained nearly two seconds slower than improving the world record of 51.94 seconds, made by Aaron Peirsol of USA in 2009
The gold medallist was chased by Lijesen, who remained 0.44 seconds slower from the gold medallist and concluded his swim in a time of 54.15 seconds for silver medal.
In the meantime, the arena witnessed a gruelling effort of Aschwin Wildeboer Faber of Spain, who proved his mettle for the third fastest spot of the swim. Wildeboer Faber remained 0.19 seconds slower than his former finisher and secured the podium for bronze medal by clocking a time of 54.34 seconds.
Furthermore, Lacourt was delighted with his crown winning effort in the back-stroke discipline. The session concluded after the completion of all listed events while the podium finishers were invited on the victory stand for their laudable efforts after the completion of session.
