Camille Lecointre and Mathilde Geron on top of 470 Women fleet: 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta
Spectators present at the Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay waters witnessed some of the best sailing competitions on the second day of the 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta where the French 470 Women team of Camille Lecointre and Mathilde Geron claimed
the leading spot with 19 points.
The French 470 Women team set sail in six races in the first two days of the races and clinched some convincing finishes to stay on top of the fleet. Their lowest finish was discarded from the final scores which secured their top place.
French team began their regatta run with a second finish in the first race followed by an eighth podium place in the second. The third race was a bit difficult but the French pair managed to make it on the second podium finish.
After the finish of third race, the team tumbled down in the racing and clinched a sixth and a seventh which brought them in the lower places. However, the third race of the second day was impressive finish for them and they clicked back their top position.
New Zealand’s Jo Aleh and Olivia Polly Powrie, who are one of the top contenders of the fleet, are on the second podium spot with 24 points.
