Seattle Storm defeat Connecticut Sun 89-83 in overtime: WNBA Recap
Coming in from a loss in their last game, Seattle Storm bounced their way back to winning ways with an overtime 89-83 victory over Connecticut Sun at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday.
Camille Little scored a game high of 27 points with five of them coming in overtime to lead her team. Tina Thompson provided equal support on the night with 20 points of her own.
“We were so disappointed in (Saturday's) game,'' Little said. ``We didn't play our best, even close to our best basketball. We all individually and collectively decided to play better.''
Sue Bird managed her way to 11 points and 8 assists while Ewelina Kobryn came off the bench to chip in with 13 points to the Seattle effort.
On the other hand, Kara Lawson provided a good fight with a team high performance of 22 points where Asjha Jones recorded double-double figures of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Tina Charles also notched up a double-double
with 13 points and 14 rebounds while Allison Hightower managed to muster up 16 points.
Both teams started the game well and it was pretty evenly contested affair in the early goings. A 7-1 burst midway during the period however allowed Connecticut to get ahead by 16-10.
Sun were able to hold on to their advantage for the remaining time and by the close of the first quarter found themselves ahead at 18-14. Seattle came back strongly to start off the second quarter and by mustering
up a 12-6 burst, they got ahead by two points.
Connecticut responded back with a 6-1 run of their own to snatch back the lead in the next two minutes, they were leading by six. Seattle however closed the first half strongly on a 7-2 burst to make the score
38-39.
The third quarter saw both teams battle it out. Seattle outscored the host 25-22 and took a 63-61 lead into the fourth quarter.
Storm continued to pile on the pressure in the fourth by coming out with a 6-2 run but a quick 6-0 response from Sun saw the proceedings even up at 69. For the remaining time in the fourth quarter, there was
not much to separate the two teams and with the score locked at 76, the teams headed into overtime.
Seattle opened up the extra period with a 7-2 burst to hold a firm grip over the contest. They followed that up by scoring the last 4 points, going on to win the game by 6 points.
