Camille Little leads as Seattle Storm down Minnesota Lynx 65-55 – WNBA Recap
Four Seattle Storm players landed double figures as the defending champions cruised past Minnesota Lynx 65-55 on Friday night at Key Arena. Storm’s victory snapped the five-game winning streak of Minnesota.
On the night, Seattle showed that they not all about Lauren Jackson. The three-time WNBA MVP will be out for minimum three weeks as she is suffering from a left hip injury. Jackson was hurt in the second quarter of Tuesday’s 82-77
victory over the Tulsa Shock and did not return in the second half.
Camille Little replaced Jackson at forward position and ended with a team-high 16 points and five assists. After the game, Little talked about how Lauren’s absence motivated the team to put in some extra effort,
"We just wanted to make sure we played well. She's a great player and no one can take her place so we try to make sure we play well collectively."
Swin Cash had one of her finest games against the Lynx with 13 points, nine boards and four assists. Lecoe Willingham and Tanisha Wright poured in 11 points apiece. Willingham also grabbed eight rebounds in the second consecutive
victory for Seattle.
Seimone Augustus led Lynx with a game-high 17 points and six rebounds. Amber Harris came off the bench with 11 points and Lindsay Whalen ended with 10 points on the night.
For Rebekkah Brunson, it was a night to forget. She could not find her shooting rhythm and was kept scoreless in the first half of the game. The 29-year-old finished with just two points and seven rebounds, ending the WNBA record-tying
six-game double-double streak to start the current season.
Storm displayed a combination of some breathtaking offense and a shored up defence in the first quarter and held Lynx to shot just 2 of 15 from the field, while taking a 21-8 lead into the second quarter.
Staring at a 13 point deficit at the end of opening period, Augustus responded for Lynx in the second quarter. She scored nine of her points within the first seven minutes of the quarter to cut the deficit to two points, 25-23.
However, Seattle reverberated with a 10-2 run to take a 10-point lead, 35-25, at halftime.
Minnesota again fought back early in the second half and with nearly four minutes to go in the third frame; they tied the game at 41-41. On the next Storm possession, Smith hit a pair of free throw and Wright then drove to the
rim to give Seattle yet another lead at 45-41. Harris scored four points in the last 45 seconds of the third to trim the margin. However Seattle still led the game by 47-45, heading into the final quarter.
Wright scored nine seven points early in the fourth quarter and Seattle raced to a 62-49 lead with 03:51 to go in the game. The spurt knocked out the steam from the Minnesota outfit. Seattle were never threatened after that and
cruised to a ten point win.
