Camille Muffat acquires Women’s 800m freestyle gold: Day three – 2011 USA Swimming Winter Nationals
Camille Muffat of France continued her smothering efforts on third day of the 2011 USA Swimming Winter Nationals as she acquired gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle event. The championship took place at Atlanta while the session ended on Saturday, December
3rd.
The 22-year-old Muffat, who qualified into the final as top fastest swimmer, met the expectations of her fans by sweeping gold medal of the 800m discipline. She improved her qualification time by 1.50 seconds to reach the podium for gold medal.
The French swimmer remained prominently ahead of her competitors from the start of the race, where she completed her initial 200 metres of the race with a timing of 2 minutes and 05.11 seconds. She was trailed by Wendy Trott of Una Absc-GA, who covered the
equivalent distance in a time of 2 minutes and 05.97 seconds.
Similarly, Muffat went full rampant in the next two rounds and ended her first half of the race with an effort of 4 minutes and 13.58 seconds. She remained nearly two seconds ahead of her strongest rival, Trott, who swam the similar distance with a timing
of 4 minutes and 15.15 seconds.
The competition grew tougher in the subsequent rounds, where Trott remained just 1.04 seconds short of her former swimmer. Muffat concluded her initial 600 metres of the race with a timing of 6 minutes and 21.28 seconds against Trott’ 6 minutes and 22.32
seconds.
Nevertheless, Muffat showed her skills in the final two rounds, where she accelerated her pace and hit the finishing wall in a gold winning time of 8 minutes and 25.70 seconds. She was trailed by Trott, who remained 2.70 seconds slower than her and reached
the finishing end with a second fastest timing of 8 minutes and 28.40 seconds.
The third spot of the race was obtained by Leah Smith of Jewish Community, who was 6.34 seconds away from her former finisher and posted a time of 8 minutes and 34.74 seconds.
Muffat was excited with her tremendous efforts in the 800m discipline while she articulated her hope of doing the same in future events.
