Camille Muffat earns Women's 800m freestyle gold: Day three – USA Swimming Grand Prix
World freestyle champion, Camille Muffat of France earned the title of women's 800m freestyle on third day of the 2011 USA Swimming Grand Prix. The session concluded at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, on Sunday, November 13.
The 22-year-old Muffat presented her outstanding efforts on final day of the competition by claiming the title of 800m event in a wonderful time of 8 minutes and 31.23 seconds.
Muffat has already proved her dominance in several international swimming events. She won two bronze medals in the events of 200m and 400m freestyle at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
She also won a bronze medal in the event of 4*200m freestyle relay and a gold medal in the 200m freestyle at the 2010 World Short Course Championships in Dubai, last December. Before that, she earned a silver medal in the 4*200m freestyle relay at the 2010 European Championships in Budapest.
Nevertheless, the gold medallist experienced strong competition from Chloe E Sutton of MVN-CA. She remained almost half a second ahead of Sutton, who submitted an effort of 8 minutes and 31.85 seconds for silver medal.
The 19-year-old Sutton was trailed by Allison R Schmitt of North Baltimore, who proved her mettle for third position. The 21-year-old Schmitt remained almost 4 seconds slower than her former finisher and secured the podium for bronze medal with a timing of 8 minutes and 35.12 seconds.
The fourth spot of the race was obtained by Sutton's team-member, Ashley G Twichell, who remained just 0.49 seconds behind Schmitt and hit the wall with a timing of 8 minutes and 35.61 seconds.
The fourth position holder was followed by Ashley Steenvoorden of Minnesota-MN, who stayed 1.34 seconds slower from him on the finishing end and ended fifth in a time of 8 minutes and 36.95 seconds.
The 21-year-old Steenvoorden remained considerably ahead of her following swimmer, Gillian R Ryan of Una Nbac-MD, who completed her swim in a time of 8 minutes and 40.74 seconds for sixth position.
The crowd appreciated wonderful efforts of all swimmers while the meet ended after completion of all scheduled events.
