Camille Muffat lowers Olympic record of Women’s 400m freestyle – 2012 London Olympic Games
French freestyle expert, Camille Muffat lowered the Olympic record of the Women’s 400m freestyle on second day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatic Centre on Sunday, July 29.
The 22-year-old Muffat served notice of her talent in the eight-lap freestyle discipline as she snared gold medal of the discipline. She faced tough competition from Allison Schmitt of USA throughout the event but made her way to the finishing blockade for
gold medal.
She demonstrated her stupendous efforts in the 400m discipline and stepped on the medal rostrum for gold medal in an Olympic record time of 4 minutes and 01.45 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Schmitt, who was 0.32 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and reached the finishing blockade for silver medal by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 01.77 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by defending champion, Rebecca Adlington, who failed to live up to the expectations of her supporters and ended third in the race by producing a time of 4 minutes and 03.01 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Lotte Friis of Denmark, who remained only 0.97 seconds slower from the third position holder and settled on the finishing wall as fourth fastest swimmer with the timing of 4 minutes and 03.98 seconds.
Subsequently, Friis was chased by Federica Pellegrini of Italy, who was 0.52 seconds apart and made her way to the finishing blockade as fifth fastest swimmer with the timing of 4 minutes and 04.50 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the race was secured by Coralie Balmy of France, who remained 1.45 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 05.95 seconds.
Balmy remained 0.29 seconds ahead of Brittany Maclean of Canada, who ended seventh in the race with the timing of 4 minutes and 06.24 seconds.
Similarly, Lauren Boyle finished eighth in the discipline with the timing of 4 minutes and 06.25 seconds.
Furthermore, Muffat was very delighted with her victory in the 400m swim at the medal ceremony of the event.
