Camille Muffat secures Women’s 400m freestyle gold – European SC Swimming Championships
Camille Muffat of France secured gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on third day of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Saturday, November 24.
The French swimmer stifled hopes of her opponents in the 400m discipline and proved her eligibility for the title of the event.
Muffat enjoyed an advantage of more than three body lengths over her closest competitor and surfaced on the wall as the champion by producing an effort of 3 minutes and 54.85 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Lotte Friis of Denmark, who remained four seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by touching the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 58.85 seconds.
Friis was followed by Coralie Balmy of France, who stayed only 0.95 seconds behind and concluded her race in third place by submitting an effort of 3 minutes and 59.80 seconds.
The third position holder was traced by Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who stayed 0.59 seconds slower from securing her spot on the podium and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 00.39 seconds.
Miley was chased by Aimee Willmott of Great Britain, who stayed 1.50 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and surfaced on the wall as fifth fastest swimmer by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 01.89 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Beatriz Gomes Cortes of Spain, who stayed 2.22 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing end with a timing of 4 minutes and 04.11 seconds.
Cortes was traced by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who remained full body length behind and tapped the wall for seventh position by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 05.02 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was secured by Diletta Carli of Italy, who stayed 0.40 seconds apart and completed her race in a time of 4 minutes and 05.42 seconds.
In addition, Muffat was extremely happy with her top finish and received medal at the prize ceremony of the event.
