Camille Muffat secures gold finish in Women’s 400m freestyle: 2011 Mare Nostrum Series - Monaco
Camille Muffat of the Olympic Nice Natation has secured a gold finish in the Women’s 400m freestyle final on the second day of the 2011 Mare Nostrum Series, being staged in Monaco.
Monaco is the decisive stop of the 2011 Mare Nostrum Series, which is a four-stop event that provides a chance to international swimmers to compete against each other in their respective categories. The event is considered of huge importance, as it precedes
the upcoming 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
The 21-year-old Muffat pocketed the gold medal of the distant freestyle swim, by clocking in a time of 4 minutes and 05.46 seconds. She was almost seven seconds away from her subsequent swimmer, Coralie Balmy of Dauphins Toulouse Oec, who secured the silver
medal in a time of 4 minutes and 12.62 seconds. The bronze medal went to Nina Rangelova of Bulgaria, who stepped on the podium for the third position, with a timing of 4 minutes and 14.09 seconds.
Moments later, South African swimmer, Michelle Weber, appeared on the finishing wall as the fourth fastest swimmer. Weber reported in a time of 4 minutes and 18.94 seconds and was almost two seconds ahead of her following swimmer, Annick Van Westendorp.
Van Westendorp of Switzerland and Natasha De Vos of South Africa completed their swims in the fifth and sixth fastest spots, with timings of 4:20.25 and 4:20.37 minutes, respectively.
Adeline Martin of CN Antibes ended his swim in the seventh fastest place, by touching the wall in a time of 4 minutes and 23.18 seconds. He was followed by Switzerland’s Danielle Villars, who completed his swim in the eighth place, producing a time of 4
minutes and 26.00 seconds.
Muffat is also the gold medallist of the 200m freestyle category at the 2010 Dubai World Short Course Championships. She won the bronze medal in the 4*200m freestyle at the same world titles.
The arena applauded for all the podium finishers, who demonstrated their aggressive swimming skills by posting wonderful timings in the championship.
