Camille Muffat seizes Women’s 200m freestyle gold: Day two – 2011 USA Swimming Winter Nationals, Atlanta
Camille Muffat of France seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on day two of the 2011 USA Swimming Winter Nationals in Atlanta on Friday, December 2nd.
The 22-year-old Muffat reached the final round as the top contender for gold medal. With her outstanding strokes and exhausting efforts, she sustained her top spot and clinched gold medal of the event. She posted a phenomenal time of 1 minute and 56.61 seconds for gold medal.
The gold medallist was trailed by Melissa Franklin of Colorado Stars-C, who was just a nail away from overwhelming Muffat’s effort. The 16-year-old Franklin remained 0.10 seconds slower and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 56.71 seconds for silver medal.
The third fastest spot of the race was acquired by Brittany MacLean of ESWIM, who remained nearly three seconds slower than her former finisher and reached the finishing end by clocking a time of 1 minute and 59.45 seconds for bronze medal.
The 17-year-old MacLean was chased by Chelsea Chenault of Terrapins Swim Team as she ended fourth with an effort of 1 minute and 59.76 seconds. Chelsea Nauta of Athens Bulldog Swim completed her swim in fifth fastest place as she posted a time of 1 minute and 59.82 seconds.
After few minutes, the arena witnessed a mind blowing performance of France’s Yannick Agnel, who snatched gold medal of the Men’s equivalent event. The 19-year-old Agnel posted a time of 1 minute and 46.36 seconds for gold medal.
He was followed by Richard Berens of Trojan Swim Club, who remained 0.76 seconds slower and stepped on the podium for second position by posting a time of 1 minute and 47.12 seconds. Darian Townsend of Tucson Ford Deal was the bronze medallist of the event as he remained 0.52 seconds behind and concluded his swim in a time of 1 minute and 47.64 seconds.
The session came to an end after the laudable efforts of all podium finishers in the 200m freestyle event. In addition, the position holders collected awards and accolades for their invincible efforts after the conclusion of session.
