Camille Muffat seizes Women’s 200m freestyle title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Camille Muffat of France seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on initial day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Saturday, October 20.
The French swimmer smothered hopes of her opponents in the eight-lap discipline and proved her eligibility for the title.
With her unrelenting efforts, Muffat remained nearly three body lengths ahead of her closest swimmer and sprinted her way towards the wall for gold medal.
Her astonishing pace remained considerably ahead of her rivals as she tapped the wall for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 52.28 seconds.
Afterwards, the audience witnessed exhausting efforts of Charlotte Bonnet of France and Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who initiated a stroke-to-stroke battle for second spot of the event.
Hosszu tried hard to overpower Bonnet over the finishing end but failed to do so and ended their swims in an identical time for silver medal.
The duo of silver medallists remained only 2.86 seconds slower from the champion as they emerged on the victory stand for second position by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 55.14 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed 0.46 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 55.60 seconds.
The Hungarian swimmer was chased Jessica Morrison of Australia, who was only 0.01 seconds behind and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 55.61 seconds for fifth place.
Subsequently, sixth spot of the event was secured by Leah Smith of USA, who stayed 3.20 seconds behind and ended her race in a time of 1 minute and 58.81 seconds.
Smith was followed by Diletta Carli of Italy, who was just two strokes apart and ended her swim in seventh place with an effort of 1 minute and 59.17 seconds.
Carli remained 0.29 seconds ahead of Jessica Cavalheiro of Brazil, who finished her race in eighth place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 59.46 seconds.
Furthermore, Muffat expressed happiness over her victory and raked medal after the event.
