Camille Muffat takes Women’s 400m freestyle title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Camille Muffat of France took gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Sunday, October 21.
Muffat devastated hopes of her opponents in the mediocre distance event as she sprinted her way towards the finishing blockade for the title. With her continuous efforts in the 16-lap event, Muffat faced no trouble from her opponents and claimed victory in an easy fashion.
She remained considerably ahead of her toughest competitor and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal with a nice timing of 3 minutes and 54.93 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Leah Smith of USA, who remained nearly 10 seconds slower and posted a time of 4 minutes and 04.86 seconds for silver medal.
Smith was chased by Rebecca Mann of USA, who was 0.35 seconds slower from her and emerged on the wall for third position with a timing of 4 minutes and 05.21 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Melissa Ingram of New Zealand, who stayed 0.26 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as fourth best finisher with a timing of 4 minutes and 05.47 seconds.
Similarly, Ingram remained in a lead of 2.02 seconds over Diletta Carli of Italy, who settled on the wall as fifth position holder with a timing of 4 minutes and 07.49 seconds.
Sixth spot of the event was obtained by Lotte Friis of Denmark, who stayed half a body length behind and posted an effort of 4 minutes and 08.05 seconds.
Friis was trailed by Sarah Kohler, who stayed 1.09 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 4 minutes and 09.14 seconds for seventh position.
Kohler was traced by Junjie Shen of China, who suffered a loss of almost three seconds from her former finisher and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 12.32 seconds.
In addition, Muffat received a huge round of applause from the audience for her notable efforts and stressed that she would continue her hard work to accomplish the same at superior levels of swimming.
