Cammile Adams and Michael Phelps win 400m IM gold: Day two – USA Swimming Grand Prix, Austin
Cammile C Adams and Michael Fred Phelps won gold medals of 400m Individual Medley (IM) in Men’s and Women’s category on second day of the Austin Grand Prix on Saturday, January 14.
Austin is the second leg of the 2011-12 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series and the event was scheduled at Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
The 20-year-old Adams faced strong competition from her competitor, Katie E Hoff throughout the IM discipline, but she paved her way on the podium for gold medal. She clocked a sterling time of 4 minutes and 38.80 seconds to grab the title of the event.
The 22-year-old Hoff remained 0.94 seconds slower than Adams on the finishing end and secured the medal rostrum for silver medal by posting a time of 4 minutes and 39.74 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Alexandra Komarnycky, who remained nearly seven seconds behind her and hit the wall with a third fastest time of 4 minutes and 46.06 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in Men’s category, where the arena witnessed a breath-taking effort of 14-time Olympic champion and their favourite, Phelps. The 26-year-old Phelps pocketed gold medal of the Men’s IM discipline in a scintillating fashion.
He remained unimaginably ahead of his following swimmers and touched the wall in a time of 4 minutes and 16.95 seconds for gold medal. With his ruthless aggression, he remained 4.21 seconds faster from his subsequent competitor, Conor J Dwyer, who concluded his race in a second fastest time of 4 minutes and 21.16 seconds.
The third position of the event was obtained by 22-year-old Andrew Ford, who remained 0.83 seconds behind his former finisher and emerged on the finishing blockade with an effort of 4 minutes and 21.99 seconds.
With his relentless efforts, Phelps aroused expectations of his fans for the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games. He also expressed happiness over his comfortable win in the 400m IM event.
In addition, the crowd appreciated heart-felt efforts of all position holders, who secured the podium in their exclusive event while the session ended after the conclusion of all listed events.
