Cammile Adams clinches Women’s 200m butterfly gold: Day three – Austin Grand Prix
Cammile C Adams of Texas A & M University continued her winning streak by clinching gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly on concluding day of the Austin Grand Prix at Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on Sunday, January 15.
The 20-year-old Adams, who claimed the title of 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the competition, went full throttle in the four lap butterfly event. With her invincible efforts, she faced no threat from her opponents and emerged on the podium
for the title.
She occupied gold medal of the 200m event by touching the wall in a splendid time of 2 minutes and 06.76 seconds. The gold medallist was trailed by Jemma Lowe of BSS, who remained 0.63 seconds behind her and transpired on the finishing wall with an effort
of 2 minutes and 07.39 seconds for silver medal.
The 21-year-old Lowe was followed by Mackenzie Downing of Canada, who ended her swim in third place by hitting the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.04 seconds.
In the meantime, the arena witnessed a remarkable struggle of Sebastien D Rousseau of Una Gsc-FL in Men’s 200m butterfly. The 21-year-old Rousseau faced strong competition from David P Russell of California Aquatics throughout the race.
Rousseau earned gold medal of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 00.83 seconds. With his undisputed effort, he remained 0.15 seconds ahead of Russell, who settled on the podium for second position by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 00.98 seconds.
Similarly, the second position holder remained just 0.11 seconds lucky from his subsequent rival, Stefan Hirniak of Canada, who hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 01.09 seconds for bronze medal.
Adams was contented with her title capturing effort in the distant butterfly swim. With her smothering efforts, she has expressed her desire of qualifying for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
In addition, the crowd appreciated commendable efforts of all participating swimmers in their respective events whereas the winners were awarded accolades for their breath-taking efforts after the completion of session.
