Campbell, Marleau, Yashin, and the Predators???

Its a bit on the slow side today so just throwing out some hockey topics out there.

Brian Campbell.....will he be a shark or not next year? Doug Wilson is a genius when it comes to re-signing players. Yet, this is Brian's best chance at landing a HUGE contract. Will he see potential to win a Cup with SJ or will he go sign with another team? I personally don't feel he'll take a discount with the Sabres as if Buffalo wouldn't sign him before for about 5 mil, imagine the competition this summer!

Do you see Patrick Marleau with SJ next year? Marleau has a no trade clause that kicks in this summer so if there's a time to trade him, it will be now! Rumors have surfaced that he'd be a great center to go with Rick Nash and that Columbus has the cap room to handle his hefty contract. I hope he stays.......

  1. The Preds will be decent for years to come. Just my take.

I do think someone from San Jose besides just the coach, will take the fall. Most likely it will be Marleau, just like Richards took it in Tampa.

Campbell? Hard to tell.... San Jose has the money to give him what he would want. Its all up to where he WANTS to play. There isnt a team that wouldnt want him playing for them, asuming they have the Cap Space.

Yashin? I dont see him as that significant. He has fallen into that Lang, Fedorov, Jagr category to me. A super discount and a changed attitude, well then I might think about it. I dont want the older highly skilled players. If I sign older guys, I want them to be the role players.... Drake, Roberts, Roenick (yes he was a role player this year)... guys like that! The higher end skills guys are starting to lose a step at age 35 and above and most still command too much Cap Hit. If they can convert into a role player fine, but I cant see Yashin becoming a role player.

*** Let me give you an example.... Drake makes 500K this year. Worth it for filling out a roster as a second thought at that price? To me, YES!

Roenick made 500K this year. Worth it? You do the math... h**l yes.

Doug Weight made 3.5mil this year.... Worth it..... NO!

Fedorov made 6mil this year... Worth it? NO!

    Follow my logic?

  2. For some reason I had a feeling from the beginning of the Campbell trade that he'll somehow make his way back to Buffalo, but I really don't know......... and the Predators were definitely on the right track this season. If they can continue in that vein, I don't see why they couldn't be a Cup contender in the next few years.

  3. Brian Campbell should be traded to Ottawa

Patrick Marleau should stay with San Jose

Yashin should stay away from the NHL!

  4. Let's see....I will start with Brian Campbell.

I think Brian Campbell will be a Shark next season, and maybe even more to come after. I only think this because he has expressed his desire to stay in San Jose, as well as stating he likes it. Like you said, he would be offered a huge contract, and Buffalo does have the money; other teams do as well. So when July 1st comes, it should be interesting to see. I believe he will resign in San Jose.

I see Patrick Marleau signing with San Jose for next season. He has been the leader of San Jose for many years now, and it would be stupid of San Jose to get rid of him. He is a great player and leader. San Jose getting rid of Marleau would be a mistake and their part which they would regret. As for him going to Columbus: It'd be interesting to see, but I don't think it would happen.

I do not think Alexei Yashin will sign with an NHL club next season. He is playing in Europe, and he seems content there. Yes, he may provide some depth at centre, but teams just do not want his contract as a huge burden on their cap. He has been known for his greediness, so I doubt he will sign for anything reasonable.

As for the Predators, it is hard to tell. They have a good, solid and young team in their hands, but they just arent consistent. The players they have arent experienced enough to contend just yet. They might be playoff contenders, but Cup contenders? No.

  5. 1. I think Campbell will stay in SJ. It seems like SJ will want to keep him and I think he will be reasonable with them.

    2. Marleau finally seemed to fit in at the end of this year. Although he is constantly rumoured to be moved so it wouldn't be surprising. One trade I could see would be Marleau to the Leafs for Kubina and somebody else, if they feel they can't keep Campbell. Leafs were rumoured to be after Marleau before, have traded with SJ recently (Toskala) and want to get rid of Kubina.

    3. Yashin won't be back to the NHL. If he can get over a million in Russia, I doubt anybody will give him more in the N so he'll play in Russia again.

    4. If Nashville's ownership is finally settled and is willing to spend to the cap, they can be a great team. But, look at all the great players they gave away last offseason to shed salary (Timonen, Hartnell, Upshall, Parent, Vokoun)

  6. i cant say much beacuse im a scout for the sharks but i will tell you this they are going to to make some big trades.

  7. I think Campbell ends up in Ottawa or Buffalo. Sure he said he loves San Jose, but he's a Ontario native (Strathroy) and makes his off season home close to there (just west of Buffalo). San Jose would be a major relocation and the money will probably be about the same. As far as his championship chances, signing with a team like the Senators is not far off from the Sharks chances.

As far as trading Marleau, I don't think it's a matter of IF but WHEN. When Wilson fired Wilson, he said that more changes were coming, and I doubt he was talking about any third or fourth line players. Marleau has value and the Sharks have given up quite a bit at the deadline the past two years to get Guerin, Campbell, and Rivet (they gave up Bernier,  Nieminen, Barriball, a conditional first-round pick which turned into David Perron, and Gorges). I think they move Marleau for some youth and some picks.

    Yashin?!
