Campbell Talking With Sunderland
Experienced Arsenal defender, Sol Campbell, is reportedly in talks with Sunderland about a move up north.
Campbell is said to be a little frustrated by the lack of first team games he has been getting since he re-joined Arsenal. He is also said to be annoyed that he was overlooked from England's plans for the World Cup and a move could be the thing, which gets him back into an England shirt.
Campbell has become no stranger to moving around various clubs in recent times and many fans are going to see this story as an example of him throwing his toys out of the pram.
It could be very good for his game or it could work the other way. There are many attributes, which Campbell possesses that would make him a key figure in the Sunderland team next year. However, others are arguing that this is a bad move and could well signal the end of Campbell's career as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
Attributes
Campbell is a highly experienced defender and he will be able to display his knowledge if he moves to a new club. He uses this experience to make up for his lack of pace and to get into good positions in the field, which enable him to defend efficiently.
In terms of a defender Campbell ticks all of the boxes that Sunderland will be looking for in a potential player. He still has ambition to play at the very highest level of the game and he has managed to stay fit despite the fact that he is not as young as he once was.
There would also be a new club feeling, which Campbell would experience. This is where players often give a little bit extra because they are trying to make an impression at their new club. Campbell will also be trying to win over the fans who will be unsure over this move because of his age and decreased quality from the player he once was.
Bad Move
Many people are going to say that any move away from Arsenal is a bad one for a number of reasons. If he wants to play for England again then he stands a much better chance of playing well in an Arsenal shirt than a Sunderland shirt. This may seem like a naive way of thinking but Darren Bent was one of the Premier League's top scorers last season and he didn't go to the World Cup.
Campbell could well be viewed as though he is overlooking the quality of Sunderland as a club. Although he would be a good signing for the club he would not just walk straight into the first team. This means he is likely to face the same problems in terms of team selection that he has already experienced at Arsenal.
If Campbell stays at Arsenal then he will have a marginally better chance of getting back into the England squad. This is only because of the higher profile of the club. The odds are going to be long on this regardless of where the player is playing his football next season.
As for the clubs you can always back Arsenal to be somewhere near the top of the table by the end of the year. They still lack a little bit, which will stop them from winning the Premier League. Sunderland are more likely this season to finish with a European place and if you can back them to get this then go for it.
