Former Everton striker Kevin Campbell thinks that the Toffees’ chances of securing a place in the European competition will hinge on Nikica Jelavic’s form in the coming season.
The adroit Croatian footballer played a pivotal role in Everton’s seventh place finish in the league previous season, firing 11 goals in 16 appearances. His instant heroics at Goodison Park won him the plaudits from Everton greats, who have already tipped
him to become a club legend.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Moyes’ side compiled a 56 points tally out of their 2011/12 campaign, falling eight points short of 6th ranked Chelsea.
Nevertheless, Campbell noted the significant impact created by the 26-year old since his arrival at Merseyside in January, and believed that whether or not Everton mounts a challenge for a European place will depend on how much goals Jelavic scores in the
coming season.
He told the club’s official website, “Jelavic has been scoring goals and if that can continue then why not even go for a Champions League place?”
Everton, who were at times unbeatable in the closing stages of the last campaign, built a nine match unbeaten streak during their run-in. They beat the top flight clubs of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, Manchester City and Tottenham since January, and also dealt a fatal blow
at Manchester United’s title ambitions, by eking out a 4-4 draw at Old Trafford in April.
The 42-year old Englishman mentioned that keeping in view the Toffees astounding late charge, he won’t be surprised if they went on to break the stronghold of the Premier League’s big four by finishing in the top four next term.
He continued, “http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 are one of the only teams to break that monopoly and I don’t see why they can’t do it again if they can start better.”
Jelavic, the fastest Everton player to reach the 10 goal mark in 100 years, has traumatized defences with his eye catching movement and phenomenal conversion rate. The fact that all but 5 of his last 46 goals have come of his first touch is itself an indicator
of the ruthless and clinical finishing ability that he possesses.
Campbell recognized the Croat’s prowess by saying, “He has been a revelation. It is nice to have someone who can take the goal scoring mantle on.”
He went on to recall his playing days at Everton and revealed that his stay at Goodison Park was made easy by the excellent attitude of the fans and his team-mates.
