The Seahorses’ president insists that although the Juventus defeat sealed their relegation, the support of the aficionado meant a victory for him.
Cesena President Igor Campedelli has offered his overwhelming gratitude for the appreciation of the club devotees for the team, after they lost their match and the last of hopes of survival in Italy’s top flight against Juventus.
The Bianconeri fought hard against the league leaders, but a late goal from the Old Lady confirmed their already lingering drop from the league. However, the fans recognized the hearty effort put in by the players, and applauded the team despite the loss.
Campedelli insisted that the appreciation of the fans was a proud moment for him, as it meant that the efforts of the team did not go in vain despite the relegation. The Chief stated that the clap was nothing less than a reward for the players, and the president
alike after the team fought with dignity against a stout opposition. He insisted that the match felt as good as a victory for him.
While talking to the press, Cesena president said:
“I was extremely proud for the applause at the end that greeted the team at the end of the game. Our fans have noticed how hard and with dignity the team faced this season finale and to want to reward that with their gesture is, for me, as good as a victory.”
The Cavallucci Marini executive went on to say that the moment is not just proud for the club but also for Italian football, which has been teemed with negative events about the mob.
The chief insisted that it is a good opportunity for the Italian media to highlight a positive behaviour of the crowd, which has only dyed the negative stigmas attached to the football fanatics.
“There is much talk in the media for unpleasant episodes fans can cause, but there is not enough when, on the contrary, they are responsible for events ‘extraordinary’ for Italians.”
Campedelli insisted that the event may also seem trivial, but the appreciation from the fans was recognition of all the sacrifices made by the club, to offer the best stadium and football possible to the club.
