Camper-van Options?

Hi, and thanks for previous assistance. My wife and I will be 'tourists' for a couple of months early next year, (Feb/March.) We intend to drive from Adelaide/Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane and on up to Cairns. We want to experience a MotorHome option for part of the journey, but we are struggling to determine which part of the drive would be of the most interest to rent a motorhome, as we don't want the commitment for all two months ! Any particular pointers, or strong advice, would be most welcome. Thanks one and all.

  1. Adelaide to Melbourne is a fabulous trip, ie: Great ocean road. Been there, done that, forgot to get the t-shirt. JOKING ASIDE, you will have the time of your life Motor home travel is the only way to travel in Australia. But! if only one section of your journey is to be  by this mode of transport, most definitely wait till you make your trip from Brisbane to Cairns. Have done both, and without a doubt best chilled out long distance drive we have ever done. Hope you have a wonderful time, you won't regret it.    Do definitely check the web,

there are plenty of reputable company's.the first trip we did we booked while in Au's, second trip we booked on line. Always check your booking on line with a phone call they are more than helpful, only draw back about phoning is the time difference but they are more than happy to help. checking on line will give you more of an in site to what you will need to bring regarding documents etc:

  2. Any Part of the whole journey is good as long as you don't do the major highways.

Adelaide to Melbourne via the Great ocean ( coastal Road)

There are national parks camp grounds along the rout too so free camping.

Melbourne to Sydney also can be done the coastal route and is very beautiful same from Sydney upwards.

The Cost of van rental can be cheaper than hotels and car higher. You can also stop within reason where you like each night when you get tired etc.

Would also suggest you get a couple of fold up bikes to carry with you for short trips and scenic rides etc.

    Have a good holiday

  3. Melbourne to Sydney via a route which is interesting and misses the boring Highway 1 and Highway 31

Go via Healesville, Mansfield, Beechworth, Falls Creek, Thredbo ( walk and climb Australia's Highest mountain), Canberra (say g'day to Kev), Bundanoon, Robertson (where Babe was filmed), Kiama, Stanwell Park, Royal National Park, Sydney.

  4. im sticking my beak in because i seen campervan! lol! the camper to use is a classic vw t2 bay screen, there nice looking & would make the trip more fun i think!

    happy camping!
