Camping Stove & Gas BBQ. Can I use Butane or Propane?

We have been leant a Camping Stove that is recommended for use with Butance and has a 28mb Butane regulator fitted. We have also bought a gas BBQ which has a 37mb Propane reg fitted and instructions state for use with Propane only.

We only want to take one bottle with us and my question is will we be ok to change the regulator on the BBQ and use Butane? My Mother in Law has a Gas BBQ which takes Butane and understand that there isn't a huge difference between the gases other than Propane is better for winter use so it should be ok shouldn't it?

  1. No, there are definite differences between the two fuels. They have different btu values and burn differently...pressures are different...They are not interchangeable nor are appliances convertible. Sorry, but you will need to pack both fuels along.

  2. You can't switch them out. You have to use Butane on the stove and Propane on the BBQ. I suggest you use the BBQ for your cooking. You can put a pot on it just as easly as a stove, plus you have the option of using it as a grill. So if I had to leave one of them home, it would be the camp stove.

  3. unless the manufator specify that the grill is multy fuel its best not to play around with changing fuel.
