Camping World Trucks Series heats up as teams head to Sparta for Kentucky 225 – NASCAR
The points are up for grabs at the Kentucky 225 at the Kentucky Speedway this weekend in the Camping World Trucks Series as the race for the Championship nears its climax.
With only 6 races left in the season, there is a 7-point gap between the top 3 in the series and it could swing in any direction.
Austin Dillon currently leads the standings with 661 points followed by James Buescher, who is just 2 points behind Dillon. Johnny Sauter is in 3rd place, 7 points behind Dillon. So it is set to be a see saw race for the top as
all three drivers stand an equal chance for the championship.
Dillon has a good record at Kentucky, having finished 9th here in 2010 in his first race at the track, before finishing 14th earlier this year. He also has momentum on his side, having finished in the top
10 in the last 3 races, winning in Chicagoland and finishing 2nd at New Hampshire.
“I feel like we've had a great truck to beat each and every week but just been beating ourselves a lot this year. We're finally putting some finishes together,” Austin said. “We're really focused on these last six races, so we'll just go fight in these next
six.”
James Buescher also has a good record at Kentucky with 2 top10 finishes in his last three attempts. Buescher has yet to win a race this season but has been consistent in his finishes and will be looking to wrestle back the top position from Dillon.
“[Crew chief] Michael [Shelton] and [team engineer] Hal [Ralston] have been working really hard on our mile-and-a-half program, and we seem to have hit on a couple of things that I think will help us in Kentucky,” Buescher said.
Johnny Sauter will also be looking to build up on his performance at Kentucky earlier this year when he was in the lead but broke his rear axle and dropped out of the race. He finished second here last year and could be the man to watch in this race.
Good news for the racing pack is that Kyle Busch will not be running at Kentucky 225 as he looks to concentrate on the Sprint Cup. Busch was the winner here earlier this year and won the last Truck Series race at New Hampshire as well.
The Dillon brothers will go head to head for the first time in the NASCAR series as Ty Dillon is set to make his debut in the No. 21 Chevrolet for Kevin Harvick Inc. Ron Hornaday will switch his truck and drive the No. 2 Chevrolet while Cale Gale will be
driving Hornaday’s usual No. 33 truck.

This is the first time in the Series history that there will be two races at Sparta, with this being the first ever Kentucky 225 race. Previously, only the Built Ford Tough 225 was held at the track.
