So, my boyfriend and I decided we want to go camping, probably wont happen till spring, but im starting to do some research. We live in southeastern Ohio and are looking for a place relatively close, but not too close.. 30min--2 hour drive. And we want somewhere that has plenty to do, just the two of us. And it has to have a lake =]

any help?

Ive never been camping before, so idk how it works, lol

  1. I live in SE Ohio, too. Biblio's answer about Mohican and Hocking Hills are both good, but the Mohican I know is not near Hocking Hills. It's more NW of here. (I'm in Guernsey County). There is a place called Mohican Wilderness...very nice campground, the Mohican River with many companies offering tubing, canoing, kayaking. There is a cool place with a high ropes challenge, climbing and rapelling and a zip line. I loved it. www.mohicanwilderness.com

Near Hocking Hills--SW of Guernsey County-- is Logan. There's stuff to do in Logan and Athens isn't far. Nice camping in Hocking Hills state park, and there's a lake. Excellent rapelling in Hocking Hills and you can take a class through Hocking Tech, I think.

Near Coshocton is Lake Park Recreational Complex. Family type camping with bath house, showers, toilets, a great water park (small, but fun slides) the river, a canal boat pulled by horses...more kitchy than romantic, but what the heck? It's fun. Also Rosco Village for shopping.

Near Cambridge is Salt Fork State Park. Nice camping, big lake with camping and public beaches, room for your boat, water skiing, fishing, hiking, geocaching. If you want to stay near town with the movie theater, restaurants, etc try Spring Valley Camp Ground right off I70 at St. Rt. 209. Little pool, more of an RV place, really.

  2. Both good info...Mohican is north ...I always liked Lake Hope(few miles from Nelsonville)...they have cabins, tent camping, and trails etc...also if you are a hiker hit old mans cave, rock house, conkles hollow,etc..

  3. Try Mohican, around Hocking Hills, Ohio. Here is the link: http://www.mohicancamp.com/

It's a really cool place -- lots to do!
