Camping in Munich for Oktoberfest?

Do I need to reserve a camping spot in one of the camp grounds or is ok to just roll up on the 19th, day before kick off?

If you're headed to Thalkirchen you just rock up, as you cannot make reservations.  You'll want to get their early on the day before the festival kicks off.  I went last year and by about 4pm the campsite was full.

It's a great spot, gets a bit messy, but loads of fun.  They even have a beer vending machine, so you can get a nice cold German beer anytime of day!
