  1. A public park is not a great place to camp, and yes, it is illegal. Your best bet is in National Parks such as the Adirondacks. Also give a call to your local department of environmental conservation, they usually have good info on camping locations and such Now I don't know where you live but you and your friends should definitely learn more about wilderness skills. The Boy Scouts are a great place to learn that. Another is the Civil Air Patrol.

If you like, you can go through my site, I have put lots of info up on what to carry, how to build camping gear etc.

  2. Of course it is illegal. If you mean national parks by public park, it can be. However, not all the areas in national parks are suitable for camping.

  3. sorry, I don't mean to be rude about your mom but that was dumb, no its not illegal.

  4. Most urban parks do not allow camping.  Check with the agency which is responsible for the park in question to be sure.

There may also be safety issues--- some parks are not safe after dark!

For a safe place to camp check with your Regional or County Parks system.  Here in Southern California there are many parks with campgrounds which are clean and safe.  There are likely similar facilities where you live.

  5. That is illegal.

  6. Depends on the parks and there rules. some public parks close at night. There is one near me that is open from 6am - midnight. It is against the law to camp there unless you have a permit to do so. There is a scout area that scouts can camp in with a permit. Scouts would be a good start for you. They teach good behavior good camping ethics and are a bunch that you can enjoy being around. I started out there and am still enjoying the outdoors 40 years later

  7. Public park could be a city park, county park, neighbor hood park or a state or national park - some you can some you can't have to check about the park you want to camp in.
