Question:

Camping trip - need ideas on how to power a stereo please??

Hello people. On thursday I am goin on a camping trip and I would like to take a small stereo to play cd's. Obviously a tent has no power supply so I am wondering if any1 could please offer any suggestions on how I could power a small stereo

I know I could use a battery powered 1, but I am going for 4 nights and they would be running out every couple hours from the usage of a stereo, and the sound would be very poor

I would like to take a mini stereo, something like this...

If any1 could please offer any suggestions on how I could power it, I would really appreciate it.

1 last thing is that I dont want to spend a fortune on say a generator, that would be silly. I was thinking somethin on the lines of a car battery, but am unsure on how that would work

Anyway, any ideas would be great

Thanks in advance

  1. most camp grounds have electric receptacles

  2. I am not sure how much the nature would love your stereo. But you can use a car battery and inverter to power things like your stereo.Camping stores or even Auto shops might sell them. This site will explain information about inverters:

Regardless,my recommendation is that you leave the stereo at home and enjoy what nature has to offer. The real purpose of camping is to be free of all these electronics.Believe me I know how much other campers hate it when someone disturbs their peace and quiet. If you can't live with your music for such a long time you can also take an mp3 player with you.

  3. I guess I would buy an inverter 200 watt or so, a deep cycle battery, maybe something for boats, and a solar charger. You can hook the inverter up to the battery, and charge the battery with the solar panel. I would only listen to the stereo at night and charge during the day.

    Good Luck

  4. buy an inverter! open the hood of your vehicle connect the inverter run an extention cord to the tent and plug it in. every few hours start the vehicle so the battery can charge. hope this helps

  5. Why not just enjoy the quiet of the countyside?

  6. you could buy a lawnmower battery $20 or a car battery $45-50, and get a dc to ac converter $15

  7. Take a fridge while you're at it, and the kitchen sink.........but you could take extra or a bigger battery-m'cycle type if the volts were ok?

  8. auto or marine battery is a good idea. Most auto or mainly RV/Marine stores sell inverters.

400w is more than enough, $35 at amazon.

  9. you can use the car battery , but you will also need a power inverter . this will convert the dc power from the battery to ac which the radio runs off . there are not that expensive , definately cheeper then a generator and does nat make all kinds of noise like a generator will
