okay so next winter (08-09) me and some friends were looking to do a road trip to go skiing in Summit County. we specifically want to focus on Arapahoe Basin but will probably spend two days at other local areas (vail, keystone, etc.) to save money we decided that we would just camp instead of stay in a hotel. or the second option is rent a U-haul and live out of the back of that. does anyone know the good places to camp (not in an official camp site) that are a little out of the way but not far from the road or the ski places? and are there any restrictions to camping in the forests around there?

  1. well i have done this and it is a bad ******* idea but we stayed in the walmart parking lot in frasier up near copper and no one said a word just park in back

as far as you night it will be cold, you will be wet, there is no way to dry out

and trust me it isn't as fun as your thinking expecially at about 4 am when it is easily -20

  2. If you have the proper gear (4-season tent, cookstove, thermarest, 0 degree sleeping bags or better, etc.) then go for it. Over spring break this past year we camped out next to Frisco for a couple of days. If you take the first Frisco exit (heading west) you'll come to a little roundabout. The first turn off is a private drive, 2nd is a gravel road leading to a trailhead, 3rd is the onramp back to the interstate, 4th takes you into town. Take the gravel road to the trail head, hike up about 20-30 minutes and then start looking for a flat area at least 100 ft away from the main trail. For showers, I recommend any of the fine hotels in the area that have a pool. The worst they can do is ask you to leave. if you want more info, shoot me an email
