Campozano/ Quiroz edge past Andreozzi/ Valarezo in quarterfinal –
Ciudad de Guayaquil CH 2011
Ecuadorian wildcard entrants Júlio César Campozano with Roberto Quiroz drilled Argentinean Guido Andreozzi with Ecuadorian Walter Valarezo in the quarterfinal of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011.
The squads took up the gauntlet on clay courts of the Guayaquil Tennis Club in Guayaquil, Ecuador and it took the Ecuadorian wildcard entrants only sixty nine minutes to thump the Argentinean/ Ecuadorian couple by jumping back from a set down to score a
3-6, 6-3, 10-7 on Thursday the 24th of November 2011.
Commencing the first round of the match after winning the service pitch was Andreozzi/ Valarezo and they were able to skilfully reel off two straight games by capitalizing on an early break in the second game. However, Campozano/ Quiroz also broke back immediately
in the next game and with a hold of serve, they not only take the edge off the deficit but also equalized the score at two games each by the end of the fourth game.
The competition was extremely fierce as the two teams once more bagged their respective serves; the score had tied at three games each at the end of the sixth game. Nonetheless, the Argentinean/ Ecuadorian desiderated on their second breakpoint and then
held their serve. At this point in the match, they were a game away from their victory. By capitalizing on the third and final breakpoint the Argentinean/ Ecuadorian couple bagged the opening round to go one up in the match.
After taking a beating in the first round, the Ecuadorian couple made a fantastic return in the second set. They had a strong defence and did not setup a single breakpoint opportunity for their adversaries and instead capitalized on two breakpoints won.
Moreover, they had an exceptional service game that aided them in accomplishing a grandiose eighty four percent of their total service points in the set. For the initial four games the players bagged a game each and the score had tied at two games each.
However, from there onwards, in the fifth game Campozano/ Quiroz broke their adversaries and then held their serve to take the lead for the first time. They managed to clog the second set with a 6-3 victory by capitalizing on a breakpoint in the last game.
At the end of the first two sets both teams had bagged a set each and the set was pushed into a super tiebreaker. The cat and mouse chase carried well into the super tiebreaker and the teams matched an eye for an eye. However, the last time the score tied
was at seven points each but from there onwards Campozano/ Quiroz took the competitive edge as they rushed last their adversaries to clinch the tiebreaker at 10-7 to reserve a berth in the semi final of t he event.
