Campozano/ Quiroz expels Pella/ Alund in semi final – Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011
Ecuadorian wildcard entrants Júlio César Campozano with Roberto Quiroz expelled Argentinean Martin Alund with compatriot Guido Pella in the semi final of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011.
The two forces took up swords on clay courts of the Guayaquil Tennis Club in Guayaquil, Ecuador on Friday the 25th of November 2011. It took the Ecuadorian wildcard entrants only one hour and eleven minutes to strike out the Argentinean couple
by jumping back from a set down to score a 2-6, 6-4, and 10-4.
The foremost round of the match was commenced by Alund/ Pella and they battled a few deuces before they could hold their respective serve to roll down the scoreboard at 1-0. They then capitalized on a breakpoint in the second game as their adversaries had
double faulted on their serves. With a hold of serve in the third game, they not only took a lead but also extended their lead to three games to love.
It was in the fourth game that the Argentinean couple of Campozano/ Quiroz made a return with a hold of serve. During the fifth and the sixth game both the teams bagged their respective serves and the score had rolled down to 4-2 with the Ecuadorian pair
of Alund/ Pella leading the set.
In the seventh game the Argentinean couple hit a stunning crosscourt shot and in doing so; they held their respective serve, they were now only a game away from victory. As they pressurized their adversaries into erring, they benefitted from the last game
they desired. Alund/ Pella were now one up in the match as they had taken the competitive edge and restricted their adversaries to only two games in the entire set!
The second round of the match was kicked off by Campozano/ Quiroz, the Ecuadorian wild card entrants and this time both they squads held their respective serves. During the third and the fourth game the players exchanged in breaks and the score tied at four
games each at the end of the fourth game.
In the next two games, the players then held their respective serves on alternate games and the score once more came to a halt at three games each at the end of the sixth game. In the seventh game and the eighth game the teams matched a blow for a blow and
with a hold of serve from both the teams, the score once more levelled at the end of the eighth game.
However, from there onwards, Campozano/ Quiroz bagged the set by bagging two successive games. At the end of the two sets each player had bagged a set each. The matched was pushed into a super tiebreaker and as the Ecuadorian couple rushed past their adversaries
in the tiebreaker, they pocketed the super tiebreaker at 10-4.
In doing so; they reserved a spot in the final where they will be facing second seeded team of Brazilian Rodrigo Grilli and Uruguayan Marcel Felder.
