  1. i work as a full time employee at a day care and we have 3 16 year olds working for us at the moment.

they are a very important part of our work force. they come in at 3 and leave at 6. they get 6.00 and hour, and also get the much needed work experience.

i hope you can find one in your area!

  2. i am 16 and i work at a day care. i started working there when i was 15. it really depends on the place, but i know other kids my age working at other day care centers too. ask around, you might be able to get a job :)

  3. I think that you might need to be a little bit older, or not exactly working one-on-one with children. But you most likely will be able to do things like food prep, vacuuming, cleaning, answering the phone - helping with parental check in and outs. You will probably see the children, but working one-on-one with all the stupid laws and paranoid people, I am not 100% sure.

  4. You probably can work as a Volunteer

  5. You probably can as a Volunteer, but not as a paid employee.

  6. It varies from state to state. In NY you could be an extra pair of hands but you could not be left alone with children. In a center you could not be the official Assistant without a High School diploma. You could help out in a day care home but again could not be left alone with kids. Check with the licensing agency in your state.

  7. i'm not sure about those two day cares specifically but i know that some day cares accept starting from 15 years old. it's also more likely they'll accept 16 year olds as volunteers, but i'm pretty sure you can work too. you probably won't be able to actually play with the kids, though. best thing to do is contact those day cares and specifically ask them!

    good luck!

  8. In Pennsylvania, 16 year olds can volunteer but they have to be directly supervised at all times.  There is an exception.  If you're enrolled in an ECE curriculum, you could be considered for a staff position, but the curriculum has to meet certain guidelines and there are other requirements you'd have to meet as well.  You should probably check with the day care licensing agency in your state.

  9. not usually day cares, you need to have classes and other work qualities to work there that a 16 year old doesn't have. I would ask around or call around and find out what classes you need. Usually they want people with experience and some classes. And a certification from the state.

  10. At 16, I would hire you as a secondary instructor and not in a lead capacity.  There is the potential for legal problems until you are 21.

Also, as a teenager your brain is not fully developed and you are not able to make decisions which could, very likely, affect the safety or health of the children.  It's not your fault - it's just the way you are made.  You need those extra years to complete brain growth.

You do have to check with your state Department of Human Services/Children's Services/child care licensing agency.  They have the final say.

  11. Maybe a volunteer. But I do know that they would prefer people with past experiences, and they of course need a certification from the state.
