My wife & I are planning on retiring there with our meager retirement savings (approx. $,1200 a mo.) We're not planning on buying a property, just rent maybe a small 2-bdrm condo or apt. near transportation lines. Close to malls, hospitals, etc. Is it possible to live there on this monthly amount?

  1.  Sor 2 adult persons, 50M is more than enough for BASIC comforts.  There are apartelles in Quezon City and New Manila that charges 20M upwards for a monthly rent exclusive of electrcity.  But with the mandated provision of 20% dicscount to seniors for many basic needs of food, transoirtation, and prescription medications, including aprtelle rentals, the expenss even get lower.

The MOST important aspect of living in PH is its people.  Hard as life may be in some areas, Pilipinos have NEVER lost its respect and courtesy to one another, especially to elderlies, and anywhere you go, you feel the respect that you will not get from Western Countries such as USA where elderlies, as a general rule, are shoved to care homes or home for the aged and the young give them the middle finger whnever they want to with impunity, not to mention sassy retorts.

PH is the best place to live, most particularly if you are a Pilipino raised in the PH, not only of its festive ambience but also of its colorful language where no mental translations are needed that is required when living in another country.  Even if you are excellent and fluent in English, nothing beats using your own language or dialect where pride of one's OWN LANGUAGE is felt and self-expression is a breeze.
