  1. 1st answer is good.

    Also try this.

make sure the NIC card in the computer is set to DHCP.

then look to see what the IP addres range that it picks up atuomaticly.

If the computer NIC does not pick up a proper IP address  then there is a hardware problem.  Computer NIC, cable or the brand new router.

What you have done alreay is what I would have done.

  2. try taking it to a computer shop and let them teach u.

with our first router we took it to a shop and they tought me how to do it.

and we have thomson speedtouch now( a new one) i installed it my self. all i needed to do is type in internet ex dsldevice.lan and it worked.!

dont u have a cd with the router ?

    goodluck

  3. First thing I would do is to verify that your network cable is going from the modem into the "Internet Port" on the back of the router (often the simplest mistake).

Second thing I would do, is completely shut down my computer, and unplug both the modem and the router's power cords. I would then power up each device starting with the one closest to the wall, and working out (Modem, router, then PC). This often purges old DHCP data that may be interfering with the new connection.

Also, I  would only attempt setting up the router with a wired connection first, then once all settings have been set, only then switching to wireless. If you start changing security settings while connected through a wireless connection, you will lose your connection until your PC reflects those settings. If you have already set up the router with security settings, and you can't remember what they are... completely erasing all passwords and settings and then starting fresh may be a better idea. I know you said you already reset the router... but did you just do a soft reset, or one that erases all settings and passwords?

    To reset router's memory:

(The default username is admin and the password is either password or 1234. Try these before resetting the router.)

Press the reset button on the back until the test light blinks. This takes about 10 seconds. (To avoid accidental resets, the small button is recessed. Use a pen or paperclip to access it.)

    Release the button.

Wait for the router to reboot.

Log in with the default password.

If the router was not cleared, try these additional steps AFTER the router has finished rebooting.

    Unplug the router's power.

Press and hold the reset button. While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.

Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.

Wait for the router to reboot.

Log in with the default password.

(By the way, the default setup IP for most netgear routers is 192.168.0.1)

  4. I really would like to help you, but maybe you should try powerline.  You can learn more at http://www.cnet.com/4520-7390_1-6274537-...
