Question:

Can't Stream Radio at work...?

I just started a new job and the IT professional told me no one is allowed to stream on the network- BUT everyone does it. I sit in my office all day and I really need to listen to something. A personal radio doesn't work- no signal. Besides bringing CDs to work- Is there a Non-Streaming Radio or Music on the internet I can listen to??

  1. Try burning a CD-RW of you favorite .mp3s.  You'll have enough music for a 8 hour shift and then some.  You can also try the above recommendation regarding portable music players...just as long as they are allowed at work (they aren't at my place of employment).

I realize your frustration on not being allowed to receive music streams at work.  My employer tries to block the streams so no one can clog the network.  We only have a T1 here and it doesn't take much to hit the 1.544 Mbps limit.

  2. Streaming radio on your computer will slow down your network. Never use the excuse 'well, everyone else is doing it', that doesn't exactly win you points at a new job. Get an iPod or mp3. iPod has a docking station (I have the iHome) so you can listen without headphones.
