Can't connect to internet! pleeeeeease help!!!!!!!

hey ppl! when ever i try to connect to d internet on my laptop it always says 'Error 692' there was a hardware failure in the modem. i can use the internet on my main computer but its using a different modem called: Conexant HSF V92 56K PCI Modem... just wondering does Error 692 mean i have to get that same modem as my main computer for it to work..? And where can i get a modem? Can i download it from d internet? thanks alot if u can help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you have to buy a modem and you CAN'T download it. btw how can you write this if you cant go on internet?

okay sometimes my laptop will not connect but try refresh and if that don't work than on windows xp software (that's what i have) than on the toolbar thing that is always on the screen (except when playing games) there should be an icon for wireless network connection (i don't know if having a modem means you don't have wireless but i do and this is what i do to fix my internet) . click on that and choose the connection with the best signal strength. i hope this was useful!

Sounds confusing, but I think, this is your problem: Assuming you have two computers with windows xp or vista, one laptop and one desktop (Main computer with Conexant HSF V92 56K PCI Modem).

Now, your main desktop can connect to the internet via dial up using the Conexant HSF V92 56K PCI Modem, you now try to connect to the internet using your notebook by dialing out using the same phone line.

If this is the case, you can't, because the phone is currently in use by your main computer. If I'm wrong and you are not using a dial up connection, how does your main computer connect to the internet, probably you have a DSL or Cable Modem. Now if this is the case, you need to buy a router so you can share internet connection.

Another cheaper option if you are using window xp or vista is to configure, internet connection sharing on one of your pc, the ideal pc to do this is probably your main pc. Follow this detailed article from microsoft to enable internet connection sharing on your main pc. This will become your gateway to the internet or what we can call the host.
