Can't connect to remote computer after adding switch to my network?

Question

I just added a switch and a new server to my network that consists of just a router and a server. After I added the switch and server I can no longer remote desktop into either server but I can ping the old server not the new one. Any idea why this would happen?

can you access everything when you are just using the router?  if you only have a router and a server, then why do you need a switch?  good luck
