Question:

Can't decide, opinions needed please?

My rats died last week and now I am, for the very first time in my entire life, without any animals. Animals bring things to my life that humans can't. I've been trying to explain this to my boyfriend, who is living with me until he gets his own place, and he doesn't think I should get one. I value his opinion but there is still this place in my heart that he cannot reach. I would like to get a kitten. My apartment is kinda small and I work 8.5 hours a day. I can't decide if I should listen to my heart-and my family-and get a kitten. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  1. In my opinion you should chose a cat because cats are more easy to take care than a dog. and since you are not at home for 8-9 hours it will not make you worry because it can take care of itself and it wont mess your house

  2. A kitten takes alot of work and they can often get into more trouble because of their energy.

If you choose to get a cat, adopt an older one (and I don't mean minutes from death.. like 1 year+) from the SPCA

  3. how can there be a place in your heart your boyfriend cannot reach? wow he must feel like sh*t when you say that to him, poor guy, unless he is missing a part of his heart too

get a dog, they pay more attention

  4. Animals really have a totally different purpose in our lives than a boyfriend or family do.  And it's really difficult to explain that to someone who doesn't understand.  I think you really need to follow your heart here and get an animal companion for yourself.  But instead of a kitten, I'd suggest you go to your local shelter and interact with all the wonderful young adult cats there.  To bring a kitten into a small apartment when you're working all day isn't ideal - but a nice adult cat might fill that empty space perfectly for you.  I can promise you that you'll have many many to choose from - all colors and sizes, all different personalities.  The nice thing about adults is that their personalities are already established - you can get young and playful, or a lap-sitter, and anything in between!

  5. dump the boyfriend, get a kitten.

both will pee on your furniture, and sleep with your sister, but the kitten wont tell you your sisters b***s are bigger.

get two kittens, they are easier to care for, they entertain each other. get siblings that like each other.

plus, two kittens should really upset the boyfriend.

be sure to sleep with the kittens. boyfriend will leave.

  6. Cat's arn't like most other animals. They don't always need attention. They can be very loving or very cruel. It's all up to you. I think it'd be great for you. If you get a kitten and raise it right then you'll be happy with it. I treat my two cats as if they're my kids (and trust me, they're so much better than them). They can ALWAYS handle being alone, so don't worry about the work hours. Also, cats don't mind small spaces. Just as long as you have shelves or furniture they can sit on; they love being in high places. Good luck!!

  7. Get a kitten from your local shelter! You will make a furry friend and save a life at the same time! Don't listen to your boyfriend. He should be more supportive of your need to socialize with animals.

  8. You shouldnt need a animal to make you feel good. And plus you work alot and animals need a lot of attention, especially a kitten.   hope i helped.

  9. I'd feel incomplete without my kitties too.  Luckily, I married someone who feels the same way.

Get a kitten.  Or even two.  The nice thing about 2 at a time is they will entertain each other and snuggle together, so they won't be lonely while you're at work.  The less-nice thing is when one wants to play, they'll wake each other up and get all riled up.  Also, they tend to play more with each other and less with people.  But my kittens, as much as they played around, still like people, they just don't use me as a chew toy like other cats have :)

The boyfriend's temporary living situation is, well, temporary.  Get a kitten, he'll deal.

  10. If you are going to be away that long every day, perhaps a kitten is NOT a good idea.  Kittens need a lot of care and attention.  Maybe adopt a senior cat that doesn't need as much attention as a kitten, but just as much, if not more, love.  If it's going to be an "only cat" think about one with FHIV or other problems that need a solitary life.  If you have that much love and need an animal to share it with, then consider this answer.  Or, get fish :)

  11. I understand that u value ur boyfriends opinion but acording to what you wrote u really love animals like me im you want to get a kitten u should if ur boyfriend thinks the kitten will scratch ur furniture hes right i have 2 cats that used to be strays and they still do but its 4 their health. i personally am really close to four kittens which several summers ago my great aunt found and together my mom, my two sisters and i took care of them and we really conected with them we don't have them anymore bcuz we had 2 sell 2 petsmart but it was really rewarding having kittens to teach and lookout 4 espacily sience there were at least 12 dogs on the same street we were on.
