Question:

Can't decide between VZ 58 or AK 47?

I've been considering these two rifles, I can't decide which one to pick. A lot of people say that the fit and finish on VZ 58 is better, but I saw one and it still had magazine wobble. Also the CZ VZ 58 costs at least a 100 more than a quality AK. What do you guys think? Is it worth it to spend extra over a quality ak with good fit and finish? i've been asking this but never get enough opinions.

VZ 58

  1. What it gets down to is this..... You Want An AK47... So just buy it.... Sure that CZ is a nice rifle and I know I surely would like to own it but its not an AK47....  If an AK is what your after then by all means by it..... I am sure this wont be the only rifle you purchase so why second guess yourself?  Buy the AK and next year get the CZ.........

  2. AK-47. It is the epitome of all firearms and the by far the most iconic. It is a piece of history, and one of the most influential inventions of all time.

  3. The quality and action of the Czech rifle, like all Czech arms, is outstanding but always a bit different. Sometimes weird, if that word works for gun engineering.

The answer as to which one you want is as simple as answering what you want it for.

Do you want a reliable, robust gun that you will, prices depending, shoot thousands of rounds through at the range. Do you envision shooting sessions that end in the barrel smoking hot and you with a big smile of contentment on your face? Then buy the AK

Will the rifles main purpose be as a collector piece, to sometimes shoot but mostly to keep and admire and maybe show off to people who have taken a liking to? Are you a guy that likes having things a bit different? If so, the Vz is the ticket. I consider it a fine fiream but it sort of fits in the collector status compared to the gun you pile abuse on.

That's pretty high for an AK, although I do understand it's a quality modern machined one with good components.  I have a very nice MAK-90 that I consider my top AK, as it also has the Tapco G2 trigger and several other mods that put it in the $600 invested range, so this price is not out of line for a quality piece.

If this is your first of this type of firearm, get the AK.

  4. Go for the AK.

There are a LOT of parts available for it so if you want to customize a bit, it will be a breeze.

The fit and finish is probably better on the VZ than an AK, but the AK is the undisputed champ in worldwide durability.

Ignore Jamal. It's not about hunting, it's about appreciation for a piece of equipment that represents history, technology and responsibility. Firearms are represent much more than people realize.

  5. AK 47 is a proven firearm still in use today all around the world.  It is the most reliable choice.

  6. You are going to have a hard time getting educated opinions because those VZs just aren't that popular that someone would have both

Czech stuff is usually better quality than the Romanian c**p that is being put out now and I believe that the VZ is forged not stamped sheet metal

I have a feeling that the VZs are going to gain in popularity after the AK craze dies down now that  they aren't bringing in anymore cheap kits
