Just moved into our house and we are trying to decide on a wall color. We have dark brown furniture, black accents (i.e. Lamps, frames, book shelves) and our carpet is a medium brown(which will change as soon as we save up) and we have gone through everycolor trying to decide and he has now given up and had left me to deal with it. :) Which is fine, 'cause now he can't complain, but I'm stuck. This color has to go in the living room and down the hall way b/c that's how the house was designed. I don't want the color to be to dark, because of the furniture being dark. Any suggestions?

  1. The light green sounds good or also a blue may work. Blue will really bring out the wood tones if thats what your going for. Good luck...i hate painting!

  2. How about use the "wood" style on your walls, that is mine and it looks great! GL

  3. a golden tone, sort of mustard/ champaign colored would look nice, the contrast will add lots of character into the room...

  4. My living room, is red with black and brown accents.  It was called ruby slipper.  It's a wonderful bright color, that elongates and raises the walls.  I live in a "trailer" sized apartment.  I wish I had pictures of it, but alas.

I don't know if  you know what kind of paint you are going to get, but don't get Color Place from wal-mart... go for the KILZ.  For my red I ended up using EIGHT coats of red just to cover the walls.  When I did my dining room, I used the kilz and only used 2.

  5. deep red or maroon...

    itll look gr eat

    =D

  6. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a cream like "napery" (# 6386) would look terrific.

  7. a pale green would give it a nice comfortable warm feeling
