  1. honestly, do the one that you can see yourself liking after ten years. you have to remember that although you can always go back to school to study for another major, it's better to get it right the first time.

if you think that you would do good in sociology and you have a passion for it, then go ahead and do it! (you could also be a college proffesor with sociology, if you like teaching)

but if you see yourself getting bored with it, then dont do it. you know yourself better than any one of us online, so only you can really make that decision.

remember, do something that you know will make you happy for the rest of your life

  2. I personally think you would be better majoring in sociology, because you can apply sociology to a variety of different careers. My aunt majored in sociology, and she's now a big time lawyer in NYC.

  3. Neuroscience, health care workers are very needed right now. There are more jobs for health care workers and better pay than there is for a sociologist. What are you going to do with sociology? If you want to become a teacher, that's great. Teachers are always needed, especially in inner city schools. Otherwise I can't think of a good job in sociology unless you're going to go to med school for your MD.

  4. Can double major (I did this and it wasn't much extra work) or do a minor if they offer one at your school in these departments. These are really big fields and there are numerous opportunities in both (despite what other answers say). Both have options in academia and industry. If your school requires that you pick one right now, just try one - you can always change later. Otherwise, why not try a few classes in each before you decide?

I'm a neuroscientist, I work in academia. Non-academic work in neuroscience is plentiful, with the largest industry being pharmaceuticals.

Many people graduate with degrees in neuroscience or sociology are successful in areas well outside of their majors. These both give you a broad background (in psychology for both, in math and biology for neuroscience), so you have lots of options. Neuroscience is a physical science while sociology is a social science, so you should consider whether you like doing lab experiments - as this is quite common in neuroscience.
