  1. Torrent downloading is a tricky thing.  It is highly rewarding but very dangerous.  You have to reconfigure your whole router.  The best thing to do is download Peer 2 Peer Guardian, available for free on download.com.  Don't ever do anything with bit torrent without having that running in the background.  If you have Utorrent then just click on your red exclamation point and follow the instructions.  Bit torrent is not for the half assed.  You have to really know what you are doing or you can get in serious trouble.  But if you do figure it out you can download anything you want.

  2. If you have a router, check to make sure the ports that your Torrent client are not being blocked by your firewall.

If you don't have a router, then there's no reason why they shouldn't be blocked.

  3. you can open ports by accessing your router, normally done by putting your IP number in to the web browser, however this will leave you open to hacker attacks, why use torrents anyway? they are lame and full of virus, there are many ways of downloading what you want, faster, safer and easyer.

  4. You should be able to change the port, depending on which torrent software you're using.

  5. change the port. it's simple enough to change the port it is trying to use. in utorrent its as easy as going options>speed guide then changing the number in the box.

btw what isp do you have?
