HI there! I am 9w 4d pregnant and have had trouble gaining any weight. I have actually lost weight. With my last pregnancy by the time I was 12 weeks I had already gained 10 pounds. This time aroud I have lost about 4 pounds.

I keep trying to eat. I don't try to eat a lot, no more than usual. But when I get about half way throuhg my plate, I start to chew on a bite and feel like I am going to gag on it and I actually do sometimes. My normal meal consists of two small serving of veggies and some type of meat. So it isn't much. And I still can't eat but half of it.

I can't even eat smaller portions more frequently because I stay with that full feeling for hours and hours. . Is this normal to any extent this early in pregnancy. This is a ne thing for me. Last time I couldn't stop eating cause I was hungry all the time. I take my prenatal vitamin everyday. But do you think this could hinder my baby's growth?

  1. No it won't hurt your baby as long as you are staying hydrated. It takes very little nourishment from food at this stage for your body to support the baby. I was so worried bc with my 3rd baby I actually lost almost 20 lbs before I started gaining weight at 6 months. I couldn't keep anything down. My OB told me not to worry and as long as I am drinking fluids and not becoming dehydrated it would be ok. And she was right, he was born a healthy little boy!! Just keep taking your vitamins and drinking water and it will be fine. Try some chicken broth (the kind you drop a cube in a cup of boiling water) or boxed chicken and noodles (the noodles are smaller and easier to eat or crackers. Try not to fill your plate too full when you eat dinner. Even seeing a full plate of food can make you nauseous. Don't worry you shouldn't have much longer of this and you can start enjoying your pregnancy. Best wishes!!

  2. I just tested pregnant on sat. and I am having a similar issue with eating.

I will eat a normal serving a food that  I would normally eat and I get to the point after a few bites of food I feel as if I am way over stuffed and I have to lay down.

I didn't even know I was preggers until I was talking to my b/f sisters on Saturday about a/f and they where like " your last period sounded more like  implantation bleeding you should get a pregnancy test ....so I did and sure enough I am pregnant , I will be going to the doctor this week. So hopefully there is something they will suggest to make the discomfort go away when trying to eat ,but besides that I have not experienced any other symptoms .

  3. Hey, most people are sick during their first trimister. I am 9 weeks preggo and I am the same way as you right now. You baby is fine.

  4. You sound like me! I'm 12 weeks now and just in the last week I've started eating a bit better, but still not as much as I should be. Your baby will be fine. It's handy to take multivitamins for pregnancy because at least that way you're still getting all the nutrients you need for the baby. I think the main thing is, until you feel a bit better, just make sure the things you are eating is going to benefit you and the bub. Like fruit, meat, veg, cereals etc. I didn't eat much at all from about week 8 til week 11 and haven't gained any weight since then but everything will be fine as long as you eat good things when you do eat

  5. Most women lose weight in their first trimester due to morning sickness which can affect women in different ways.  Don't judge this pregnancy based on what happened last time, each pregnancy is different, just like each baby is different.  Sometimes eating salty or carby foods can help ease the upset stomach, but the baby will be fine, I lost weight through my first and second trimester but the baby is growing fine, I was just put on a very restrictive diet for my diabetes and ended up losing weight because of that.

  6. This is very normal. With my first I lost 22 pounds before I gained anything, and I was quite small. I only weight 125 to start with. My doctor kept reassuring me I was fine and the baby was growing fine also. When I finally had her she weight 7 pounds even and a very healthy baby at that!

  7. Very normal to lose a little weight in the first trimester.  I wouldn't worry as long as your doctor is not concerned.  And you don't have to gain a lot for your baby to be healthy.  With my prior pregnancy I gained only 20 pounds the entire time due to 9 months of morning sickness. and I am a small petite person (I generally wear a size 2 or 4).  My baby was born at a healthy 6 pounds and 11 oz at 38 weeks.

So just listen to your doctor and try to eat healthy and your baby will be just fine.
