Can't figure out my calligraphy pen?

I just bought a beginners calligraphy pen. It's the kind were it has an ink cartridge, you don't have to dip it. For some reasons the directions for loading it aren't working. You're supposed to place two cartridges into the barrel, I can't even fit in one. I got a cartridge connected to the nip section but I can't get that to connect to the barrel, it won't fit. Also the cartridge connected to the nib section will let me write but most of the time I can't get ink to come out!

I'm new to this and really need help!!!

  1. there is a 'right' and a 'wrong' end to each cartridge barrel. often there is a little 'circle' or area where the nib section can puncture the cartridge and release the ink to flow to nib.

Are these the cartridges given with the pen?

what brand is the pen?  Shaffer?  Manuscript?  different cartridges will not fit different pens.

sounds like wrong cartridge---are they same shape for either end?

maybe look on-line to manufacturer's website...help desk?  did pen come with instructions?
