I recently discovered my grandfather's, who was adopted, mother's last name and all I know is it sounds like "swoop" or "swope" if someone has heard of a last name that sounds like that I would appreciate any help.

  1. I really do agree with Itsjustme on this one, you have to research your grandfather to be certain, but this might be a start.

    Swoope & Swope

    Last name origin & meaning:

Possibly an altered form of German Schwab.

    Swopes

    Last name origin & meaning:

Possibly an altered form of German Schwab, with the addition of an inorganic -s.

  2. I think you are going to need to buy a birth certificate for this one, it's really hard to make a guess at it because you aren't sure of the name yourself, is there no one you can ask.
