Question:

Can't get refrigerated air to turn on!?

My husband and I recently moved into a house with refirgerated air. Neither of us are familiar with refrigerated air and we cannot get our air conditioner to turn on. There is a thermostat mounted on the wall called an Aircycler Stat. Despite setting it to "cool" and turing the vent and fan on, no cool air is coming through any of the vents. We have searched the house inside and out thinking that perhaps there is a switch somewhere that we need to flip in order to turn the unit on, but there is none that we can find. Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks!

  1. There are many many things that could be wrong.  Since it sounds like you have no experience, you should try calling a local service company.  Ask for references and know that cheapest is not always best.  Because you have so little experience you are going to be at their mercy and there are a few crooks out there.

  2. Outside somewhere is a large box-like appliance called the condenser.  All the heavy cooling work is done here, and it has to be operating for cooling to happen.  It is probably not running when you call for cooling at the thermostat.

About the only thing you might be able to do on your own is to make sure the electrical disconnect box on the wall there is on and that the breakers are good.

It is not obvious whether they are good without a meter, so you either need help or just replace them.  If it still doesn't come on, you'll need an HVAC contractor...

    Good luck!
