Question:

Can't get texas driver license?

I came to Austin for my Internship and need to get driver license immediately but it seems that I don't meet requirements of valid identifications. According to some rule if I have a foreign passport with F1 visa and I-94, I must be enrolled in Texas school or coll. But as I came for internship I can't show any enrollment. It is stated on my I-20 that I am here for internship on CPT ( curricular practical training)....

I really don't think that rules are that rude that once can't even get qualified to get license. There has to be some other way. I went to main office in Austin ( on N. Lamar road) twice but every one there seem to be very unfriendly...

Please help!!!

Thanks in advance

Uhh,, that's because your supposed to have a valid drivers license from  your home country. then you don't need a Texas license.

Did you not qualify for a drivers License in your home country?

Your Drivers license from your home country is valid in Texas so long as you are in the U.S. legally.

The Law here requires that you provide your U.S. Social Security Number before you can get a U.S. Drivers License.

The Law also requires that you be a "Permanent Resident" of the state before you are eligible to apply for a Drivers License.

Basically you are just a "Temporary Guest" in this country at this time.

Even if you were here in Texas on internship from New York, You would not be considered eligible for a Texas license because you would in fact be a Resident of New York State and should have a New York License.
